About Claire Shaeffer

An independent researcher, Claire Shaeffer is an internationally respected designer, teacher, and author. She writes regularly for several magazines in the United States and Australia, and teaches workshops in Palm Springs, CA. She was awarded the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 and the American Sewing Guild’s Hall of Fame Award in 2012 for her contributions to fashion sewing.


Claire has authored more than 20 books and videos including: Couture Sewing Techniques, Tailoring Techniques, The Couture Cardigan Jacket, The Couture Skirt, Couture Techniques Workshop: Basics (DVD), Designer Trims (DVD), and Sewing for the Apparel Industry. She also designs the Custom Couture Collection for Vogue Patterns.  














Advance your skills with Claire Shaeffer's “sewfaris.” During these workshops, Claire passes along the knowledge she has gained through extensive research in couture workrooms, museums, and her personal couture collection. Workshops include classic haute couture techniques, studying the Chanel suit, and the traditional tailored suit. Classes are limited to 12 or fewer students to allow for plenty of personal instruction.
